Farm Fresh Fun
When my parents and I moved to Costa Mesa 5 years ago, it became a tradition to go to the OC Fair every year. It was walking (okay, maybe more like biking) distance from our house and we would get the discounted Super Passes months in advance for living nearby. We all still live fairly close, just on the large street parallel to the fairgrounds. Obviously, the best part of the Fair is the food. Though I was recently told by a 7 year old that it isn't fun, only the rides and games are so I mean make your own opinions on that one!
I will say that this year it was DEFINITELY more crowded than I've ever seen it. I guess there were a lot of reviews made about how expensive it is as well. I mean, the Fair has always been expensive so I don't know why everyone is complaining about it now! My dad's joke is that every single thing is $12... and he isn't wrong! I feel like my favorite part is always going with different friends because each person has their different goto food items. I can narrow mine down to four... maybe. For sure the corn on the cob, Australian Battered Potatoes, funnel cakes, and margaritas. Though I could possibly also add in that I love the cube of chili cheese fries but I did stay clear of them this year. That one's definitely a four person job or in my case two people who love potatoes. Oh, AND we tried Fried Butter for the first time. I gotta say, not bad, not bad.
Before the Fair even started this year, they did a concert early. My parents had tickets to see Kenny Loggins, but then my dad had to go on a business trip so I was the next best choice, obviously. He had a symphony playing with him and it was cool to hear his stories and him talk about his life. That always makes a huge difference at concerts when you can understand their background. I definitely think it makes you like them even more. A week later, my mom surprised me with tickets to see Colbie Caillat one night which was AMAZING! We were seated so close! It was the tenth anniversary of her first album so she told lots of stories about her journey and how each of her songs were written so that was pretty cool as well. Her guitarist is also her fiancé and the opening act which made for some fun dialogue between them.
Last year, our friend Kathy asked us if we wanted to sign up for the OC Fair Fun Run 5K so my parents and I joined her. This year, we managed to get Ivan, her husband, and Nikki, her daughter, to join us as well. One of the perks of doing the 5K is that you also can go down the big slide in the middle of it, but they decided to cheat us out of it this year on the day of, can't say everyone wasn't upset about it because it's a "fun" run and that's an important part!
Anyway, the Fair is still going on until this Sunday so if you haven't had a chance to go, please go eat some food, it's a must!! I'll also throw in a picture of Jamie's 7 months photoshoot from the Fair below (amongst the food I remembered to take photos of haha).
