Yes, you read that title correctly. Baby showers. Plural. I’m still just as shocked that these incredible human beings threw these gorgeous events for me. Or for baby boy I should say… once you’re a parent you’re no longer relevant ha ha. So as not to repeat myself too too much in this post, I’m just going to say thank you now. Thank you, thank you, thank you 100x over to everyone that made these showers happen. To Franny, the entire Norco crew and my mom, but also to everyone that pitched in to help, husbands that did hard labor, and every single guest that came to shower E with gifts or share in our excitement. Also to my brothers and sister-in-laws that weren’t able to make it, but sent gifts that meant so much to me. THANK YOU EVERYONE! Mario and I love each and every single one of you. We are so glad our son has such wonderful people to grow up around.
I will start in chronological order! My coworker Franny is the best party thrower. I don’t mean that comment lightly. I see her working full time alongside me all while planning events for other people in her spare time. She can make up recipes out of thin air and she owns every prop and decoration known to man. And if she doesn’t own it, she knows where to borrow it or get it on a budget. She works through every detail in her mind (out loud) until one sticks and she rolls with it. I’m talking diagrams, shopping lists, and all of the organized chaos you could imagine. The woman thinks and does everything from cooking, distribution of food, set up, themed decor, to whose going to do the dishes and take out trash. You think I’m joking, but I’m not. It’s what she does best and if you want your event to go smoothly, just hire her and you won’t be sorry. Okay, now that I’ve convinced you she’s a rockstar and you need her in your life, let’s talk MY shower details!! Fran found out I was pregnant the day I did and from that moment on, she had work baby shower on the brain. It probably changed themes at least 3 times before she settled on this one and she knocked it out of the park. “The Travels Of Baby Torres” with roadside eats from ‘Del Mar Diner’ (aka the street she lives on) to welcome the newest traveler to our World Market family. She wanted to incorporate a vintage travel theme because of my mom and I’s side business and it came out so cute! She had the perfect playlist, great decor, another supervisor manned the grill, succulents in the form of green candy, a coke themed drink stand, down to her husband dressing up as a dinosaur to surprise me!! I could go on and on with all of the details she poured into it along with all of my work fam that helped make it special… I’ll never forget it!
Where do I even start with this one. It makes my heart so happy that I get to be apart of such a loving organization. When I found out I was pregnant I kept it a secret as long as I could because I didn’t want to stop volunteering at the Assembly Hall. To my surprise, I was able to keep coming and I went up until one week before I was due! The outpouring of love I received every Wednesday through my pregnancy was just incredible. I was genuinely shocked when the girls got together and wanted to throw me a baby shower. In my mind, I was different. Here I am around ones who have goals to do full time service without bringing kids into this world and I’m doing just that. But I knew I wanted to do both and I found a way to do it. I never would have imagined having a BABY SHOWER in the courtyard of the Assembly Hall I grew up going to every year with such wonderful sisters opening their arms to welcome our little one into the world. It’s something I’ll absolutely never forget and I can’t wait to share stories with him about it as he grows up. So thank you everyone (you know who you all are) for making me feel so loved and giving me fond memories to look back on. And thank you to my housekeeping crew for the sweetest gift with all of our bitmojis! Down to the Miele vacuum!
For this next one, I have to write it talking to her because well she deserves it.
Dear Mom… My best friend, my confidant. You are truly the greatest example and foundation I have for becoming a mom myself. I watched you put sweat and (happy) tears into one of the most beautiful and detailed events I’ve ever seen. Months of planning and secret keeping paid off because I never could have imagined up half of what you did! I know you were worried that I wouldn’t like the theme or I’d dislike something, but like I said every month prior, I knew it wouldn’t be an issue. Granted, I’m not hard to please so you didn’t have anything to worry about ha ha. Literally every detail you put into it was so perfect, I don’t know how you pulled it off. I love you a million Swedish fish.
P.S. You’re welcome for winning favorite child because I gave you a grandkid.
Alright, let’s get down to the nitty gritty. My mom did a book themed baby shower, but on steroids. Thank you to everyone who contributed food to accommodate the theme too! My mom made so many of my favorites like, deviled eggs, mini cherry pies, sherbet punch and Florine’s meatballs. Not to mention she purchased my all time favorite strawberry croissants from Cream Pan and Sprinkles Cupcakes. My best friends mom, Karen, brought my favorite strawberry cheesecake and chocolate chip cookies that she makes. Doris’ quiche and Karin’s pasta salad I’m still dreaming about. Roxy and Derrick brought the BEST donuts and she MADE body scrubs for the favors!!! Which funny story, a few thought it was food because at my wedding the favors were jam so a couple jars of scrub ended up getting a taste test ha ha ha ha. Becky and Gigi made babies out of donuts, Hannah and Sara created a photo backdrop and played baby shower games that I wouldn’t find annoying. The list goes on and on with all of the help everyone put into it and the amazing array of gifts. I’d love to go back and relive the day again. That’s saying a lot because I hate being the center of attention. At the end of the day, I was just so happy to be able to spend a few hours with most all of the incredible women and littles in my life (and at the end some of the men too!). Just enjoying everyone’s company and laughter made my day and I can’t wait for baby boy to grow up around such loving humans.
I’m going to say it again…. THANK YOU! Even almost a year later as I’m getting around to writing this, I have such fond memories to look back on and my brain is still full of every detail put into them. I love each and every one of you and I’m happy to have you not only in my life, but my family’s life as well. xoxo
