Disneyland Gender Reveal
Photography + Videography by Tell the Birds.
When Mario and I found out we were having a baby, I instantly realized that everything I'd seen on Pinterest or social media over the years was not what I wanted. Suddenly every pin and screenshot was seemingly overdone or unrealistic. I have no idea how women manage to hide their pregnancy from their husband and do a cute announcement or surprise video. Props to them because after peeing on a stick with him in the other room, I instantly had to share! Or announcements to parents, though we did this with his parents, I talk to my mom every day, how was I supposed to keep that one a secret, ESPECIALLY since we were on vacation and wouldn't be back for 5 more days! I just wanted to share it with those closest to us in a more intimate way before spreading it to the masses.
On the other side of it, I felt like once we knew what we were having, I didn't want to do a typical gender reveal. Absolutely no offense to those who do them, but for me it just felt like everything had already been done... x a million. Plus, it's impossible to get all of my family together to do any sort of screaming excited reveal. Instead, I shared it with close family, work... and a few others because I'm not a great secret keeper (when it comes to things about myself haha). So this brings me to what we actually decided to do to share it with everyone else!
I had been following Tell the Birds for a long time on Instagram and she makes amazing birth videos that really capture the families meeting the baby for the first time. I fell in love with her videography style in all of her family, travel, and brand work, but since her and her husband live in Utah I knew it might be difficult to make something happen. Then the thought dawned on me that a year or so back she offered shoots at Disneyland and since Mario and I are pass holders and as cliche as it is, it's my happy place, I figured why not at least ask if they'd be interested or available to shoot there again. This was where my bright ideas ended because I scoured the internet and though many people do birth announcements or gender reveals at Disneyland, they once again were not my style and seemingly didn't fit hers either. I reached out anyway because what's the worst that could happen, I could hate it or she could say no so why the heck not!
Amazingly enough they were already coming to California for work so we managed to set up a day and make it happen. I was 12 weeks before then and felt like people would start to get suspicious so we ended up announcing we were pregnant around 13 weeks and then just last week when I turned 18 weeks we were able to share the wonderful video Breea and Cody produced. They're exactly as they come off on social media in person and make you feel downright comfortable in a crowd full of people, that's for sure! I'm sure many have seen the video on Instagram already, but I wanted to link it again here for those who don't have it. I'm happy to say it came out even better than I imagined and I'm so glad I found a unique way to share our happy news with everyone!
